"Water appliances" in developed countries has long been a household necessity. Data show that the penetration rate of water purifiers in developed countries is generally more than 80 per cent, has been equivalent to our current home air conditioning and refrigerator the same status. Among them, South Korea's highest penetration rate of water purifiers, reaching more than 95 per cent, followed by the United States water purifiers and European water purifiers, the penetration rate of 90 per cent, Japan's 80 per cent penetration rate of water purifiers.

At present, the domestic penetration rate of water purifier is very low, less than 5%. China's water resources are seriously polluted. According to the 2018 China Water Resources Bulletin of the Ministry of Water Resources, in 2018, 81.6 per cent, 12.9 per cent and 5.5 per cent of the country's 262,000 kilometres of rivers had Class I-III water, Class IV-V water, and Class Inferior V water, respectively.

In 2018, in 124 lakes with a total of 33,000 square kilometres of water surface across the country, the overall water quality of Class I-III lakes accounted for 25.0 per cent, a decrease of 1.6 percentage points compared with 2017; Class IV-V lakes accounted for 58.9 per cent, and Class V lakes accounted for 16.1 per cent of the poor Class V lakes.

In 2018, among the 1,129 reservoirs in the country, the proportion of reservoirs with overall water quality of Class I-III for the whole year was 87.3%; the proportion of Class IV-V reservoirs was 10.1%; and the proportion of inferior Class V reservoirs was 2.6%. Comprehensive view, water pollution is still a serious problem.

Health effects of contamination of water sources

According to the report of the International Health Organisation, because of the pollution of water sources and secondary pollution of water transport, there are 756 kinds of harmful substances in tap water, of which 20 kinds of confirmed carcinogenic, 24 kinds of suspected carcinogenic, 18 kinds of cancer-promoting and 47 kinds of mutagens, and these organisms are no way to remove these organisms by using the traditional chlorine gas poisoning process. If we use tap water containing these substances for a long time, it will lead to our poor physical condition, weaken the natural resistance, and slowly get kidney failure, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, leukaemia, cancer and so on.
